Marvel has revealed that the Exceptional X-Men series will introduce three new mutants to the post-Krakoan world. The upcoming relaunch, known as X-Men: From the Ashes, is bringing three flagship series to readers. Alongside Exceptional X-Men, the new age will feature an X-Men run as well as a brand-new Uncanny X-Men series. While Marvel has already teased the latter two series, this is the first bit of information we are getting for the Eve Ewing and Carmen Carnero-led series. Readers can expect to find Kitty Pryde and Emma Frost leading a new generation of mutants into the world.
Exceptional X-Men
The Exceptional X-Men series features the debut of three mutants not seen before in the Marvel Universe. They are Bronze, Axo, and Melee. Not much is known about these new additions to the X-Men beyond the artwork released. However, we do know that that Bronze is wielding a whip of some sort, Axo can manipulate emotions, and Melee is a skilled stealth-fighter. These three are in for an adventure as they learn to survive and thrive in a world that fears and hates them.
Exceptional X-Men kicks off with Kitty Pryde attempting to lead a normal life. After the harrowing events of Fall of X, the young mutant just wants some peace and quiet. However, that peace is sure to be short-lived as she will soon find herself leading a new team of X-Men alongside Emma Frost.
New Era, Same Problems
Speaking about Exceptional X-Men, writer Eve Ewing shared that longtime Kitty Pryde fans will find comfort in the series. At least, this is the kind of adventure that fans expect from a Pryde story. However, old and new fans will find something to love in the series that details Kitty struggling with her new role as a leader in the From the Ashes era. The wall-phasing mutant must deal with what it means to be a leader as she grapples with growing up as a child of Xavier.
Speaking of the new generation of mutants, artist Carmen Carnero shared that the whole team fell in love with the newbies. They are all such opposites with distinct personalities and yet they work well together, just like every iteration of X-Men.
Exceptional X-Men #1 hits shelves on 09/04.
