It’s been approximately 38 years, multiple questionable sequels, spinoffs and even a few games, since the release of Ridley Scott’s Alien. After all this time, It seems even they didn’t want to wait any longer for the upcoming Alien: Covenant trailer, as they released it a day earlier than scheduled.

While the unexpected release was likely to combat leaks, the trailer excites nonetheless, as the legendary sci-fi thriller franchise reminds us why it has the ability to be truly terrifying. Tension is built throughout marvelously, as the trailer begins with the respective characters speaking with jubilant optimism at the prospect of colonizing a new world.

While no one is necessarily guaranteed to survive my fingers are crossed for Kenny Pow…I mean Danny McBride’s character

Like most trailers, though, the first full release for Alien: Covenant is not one for subtlety, so be forewarned that watching it may take from some of the experience. Without spoiling anything, even with quick cuts, scenes in the trailer depict characters who are definitely going to die.

Whether you watch the trailer or not, the upcoming film certainly feels like an Alien movie at least, which is a start. There are certain details spread throughout the trailer that points to how Prometheus may have an effect on the film.

Though it received its share of mixed reviews, it highly recommended watching the 2012 to get the full experience. The standout – not surprisingly – is the beloved alien bitch known as the Xenomorph. Just a few quick bits at the end do a lot to remind viewers that even one Xenomorph is terrifyingly agile strong and smart.

Alien: Covenant releases on May 19, 2017, directed by Ridley Scott. For more information on the film, as well as our review upon its release, be sure to stay tuned to the site!
