In an interview with The Associated Press, Rowland revealed that she only exercised her boundary on the red carpet. “The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. And I have a boundary. And I stand by those boundaries. That is it,” the Destiny’s Child member said.
The 43-year-old seemed visibly upset talking about the interaction. Rowland was fighting back tears as she shed more light on what made her flip on the guard. The singer seemingly implied that racism played a role in her outburst.
“And there were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me and they didn’t get scolded. Or pushed off. Or told to get off. And I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers.”

Earlier a source corroborated Rowland’s claim, alleging that the security guard was quite aggressive with the mother-of-two. “The people who are assigned to helping stars walk the red carpet were being aggressive,” the insider told Daily Mail. The source added, “Kelly was trying to ignore it. By the time she got to the last woman she had had it because she scolded Kelly and told her to move when she was trying to wave.”

Despite the great pain Kelly feels about the incident, she has the Internet defending her. Following a video of the interaction going viral, many came to her defense on X. One fan remarked, “This is an accurate way Cannes security treats folks, especially if you’re Black and Kelly Rowland responded the RIGHT way to the disrespect.” Another urged, “Yo@KellyRowland, do we need to pull up? No child of destiny, past, present, or future, will ever be disrespected.”
The incident happened on Tuesday. Kelly was on the red carpet for the premiere of the French-Italian film Marcello Mio. However, as she walked up the stairs in her strapless red gown, the overzealous female security guard came into her space, stretching her arms to lead Rowland away from onlookers. The singer obviously wasn’t pleased about the interaction and reacted.
