Having a dog in Minecraft is a surefire way of squeezing in extra damage against hostile mobs, but they shouldn’t go into battle without first getting wolf armor. Just like horse armor, wolf armor offers substantial protection to your pup and can even be repaired and dyed. Imagine charging into battle in Minecraft with 15 tamed wolves at your command, all wearing matching sets of wolf armor. Now that’d be a sight to behold!

In order to get wolf armor in Minecraft, you need to first track down a tiny, but well-protected armadillo. They spawn relatively frequently in the savanna and badland biomes. By killing armadillos, they’ll sometimes drop Armadillo Scutes, and that’s essential for crafting Wolf Armor.

However, the more efficient way to get Armadillo Scutes is to capture and pen armadillos. Every five to 10 minutes, they’ll drop one. If that’s too slow, you can gather a couple armadillos and brush them with the Brush tool.

Any way you slice it, you’ll need six Armadillo Scutes to craft wolf armor. When you have enough, open a crafting table and place them in the vague shape of a dog and voila! Now, to equip your dog with it, hold it, then interact with your dog.

Wolf armor isn’t indestructible, but it can be repaired. It can handle 64 points of damage and when it gets close to breaking, you’ll start seeing cracks. To repair wolf armor, grab a single Armadillo Scute and use it on your dog to repair 8 points of durability.

How to Dye Wolf Armor in Minecraft

There are two ways to dye wolf armor in Minecraft: either by crafting it with the crafting table or using a cauldron. Both ways are viable; however, you’re limited based on the version you’re playing on. If it’s the Java version, you dye via the crafting table; if it’s the Bedrock version, you use the cauldron.

If you choose to craft dyed wolf armor, you have to first craft the armor, then craft the dye. Afterwards, open the crafting window and combine the two. It’s the same process you’d use if you were dying wool.

With a cauldron, you craft the cauldron, then fill it with a bucket of water. While holding the dye, use it on the cauldron to dye the water. You then dip the armor in the cauldron by holding the armor and interacting with the cauldron.

Now, it doesn’t dye the entirety of the Wolf Armor, but rather gives it a nice, colorful trim. The fun part is that you can trim your own armor to match your doggo!
