Yesterday, businessman, actor, and former President Donald Trump was officially convicted on 34 felony charges. If you haven’t heard the news by now, it’s safe to assume you may have been living under a rock, since he news of the conviction has spread to the far corners of the internet. No matter how you may feel about Trump or his politics, he’s officially going down in the history books as the first US President to be convicted of anything – and it doesn’t hurt that it’s really funny to watch, too. If you’re looking for a laugh, take a look at our list of the best memes to come out of Donald Trump’s conviction.
10. Hey, Isn’t He the Guy From That One Movie?
Believe it or not, Donald Trump is also a movie star! Sure, he was only in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York for five minutes as he gives Kevin McAllister directions, but still. That’s gotta be more noteworthy than the literal Presidency, right? The people behind Discussing Film on Twitter seem to think so, since they announced his conviction in the funniest way possible: by crediting him with his movie cameo…and nothing else.
9. If This Happened in 2014…
Ah, 2014. The era of awkward picture day memes, where everything had the same exact kind of white impact font and the punchline in the bottom text. We can only imagine what the memes would have been like if Trump was convicted back then – would there have been “I can haz cheezburger” memes floating around? It’s impossible to know, but Twitter user Zach Solomon has given us a taste of what the conviction might have looked like ten years ago.
8. Trump’s Trial Tracker – Domino’s, Is That You?
Who doesn’t love the Domino’s Pizza Tracker? It lets you know exactly when you’re pizza’s going to be ready, fresh out of the oven and ready to eat. CNN has a particular fondness for it apparently, as one Twitter user point out the similarities between the Pizza Tracker and what they used for the general public to easily understand Trump’s trial. So does this mean he’s out of the oven now, or what?
7. Today’s Number is: 34!
One particular meme that we’ve seen no shortage of is any format with Count von Count from Sesame Street. He’s a count who’s known for…well, counting, and there’s a ton of real estate available after Trump was convicted on 34 felony “counts.” Like take this meme, where one particular Twitter user shoved 34 – count ’em – identical Counts into a single image to make a hilarious meme.
6. What’s Melania Got To Say About All This?
Right now, it feels like everyone has something to say about Trump’s trial. No matter which party people belong to, whether they wanted a guilty verdict or not, it feels like everyone and their neighbor has thrown in their two cents regarding the trial. Except for one person: Melania Trump. Yes, Trump’s own wife stayed noticeably silent during his conviction, which ex-prosecutor Ron Filipowski pointed out via a Tweet featuring a blank white page.
5. Is Guilty…Bad?
If you’ve been following Trump’s trial at all – or even just the memes that came after the fact – you might have seen this one picture of Trump on his phone circulating around the internet. It’s an objectively funny photo with a metric ton of meme potential, and people have added anything from “celebrity apology”-like statements to Candy Crush, but our favorite has got to be this one from Dr. Grayfang that shows Trump Googling one question: is guilty…bad?
4. This Nice Shawshank Redemption Reference
There’s nothing better than a good movie reference, and now that Trump’s been convicted, what better movie to reference than The Shawshank Redemption (1994)? This particular meme is a nod to the Rita Hayworth pin-up poster that Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) puts up in his cell for something nice to look at. Do you think Trump will be taking notes if he ends up behind bars?
3. The Official Presidential Tier List
Look, anyone who’s ever lived in the US will tell you that none of our Presidents have been perfect – far from it. But they’ve also never been convicted either, as Reddit user n8saces helpfully displayed by ranking the US Presidents by felonies in a tier list. You’ve got 44 recognizable faces in the “zero” category, from George Washington to Barack Obama, and then all the way up at the top, all alone in the “34” category: there’s Trump.
2. We’re Still Not Sure What ‘Covfefe’ Even Means
Back in 2017, Donald Trump introduced the world to “covfefe” in a tweet, and to this day, no one’s quite sure what he meant by that. Covfefe has become something of a meme, and by some lucky alignment of the cosmos, that tweet was published seven years before Trump’s conviction – on the very same day, too. Maybe there’s some kind of conspiracy there, or maybe it’s just coincidence, but it’s a meme on top of a meme – it’s like meme-ception.
1. When The Jury Convicts You:
Courtroom sketching is an important profession, and it’s crucial to document what happens behind closed courtroom doors. It’s also unbelievably funny sometimes. Take this image of Donald Trump from his trial, with his oddly wide head, weirdly hunched back, and mouth hanging open in what looks like surprise. We wouldn’t be surprised if this became the hottest new reaction image, but for now, the best use of it was right after Trump’s conviction, when this Twitter user just captioned it with “when the jury finds you guilty.”
