David Beckham snagged himself a royal appointment with The King’s Foundation, casting himself nose-deep in the feud between Prince William and Prince Harry. Rumors of a fallout between David and Victoria Beckham and the Sussexes have become prevalent in recent times. Royal biographer Angela Levin previously discussed this feud with GBNews, citing the lack of photos showing the Beckhams and the Sussexes together in recent times. She attributed this seemingly strained relationship to a fallout between both couples in 2018.
According to her, David Beckham flew all the way to Sydney, Australia, to support Prince Harry during the 2018 Invictus Games. Despite showing up for the games at the Prince’s behest, the Sussexes reportedly snubbed him throughout his stay, believing her leaked some materials and said nasty things about them to the press. The incident, according to Angela, left the Beckhams “absolutely furious,” and that rancor has existed to this day.
With Prince Harry, once his bosom friend, out of the way, David Beckham got to fraternize with other available senior royal family members. Within the period, he apparently became close to Prince William and even the British monarch, King Charles. The switch of loyalties from the ostracized royals to the British monarch and his heir eventually paid off.
A palace courtier recently divulged that David Beckham’s new appointment as an ambassador of The King’s Foundation by the royal family patriarch was orchestrated by Prince William. According to the courier, the Prince of Wales vouched for David to have his dad hand him the gig. Another source echoed these claims of his unlikely relationship with the senior royals, divulging,
“The King and David Beckham have really bonded over their similar interests. This is a massive thing for him and he’s delighted. He is really passionate about his new role.”
Following his appointment, David Beckham admitted he felt excited to work with The King’s Foundation. In the statement, he also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to “help raise awareness of the charity’s work,” something dear to his heart. He shared,
“I’ve always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons and I’m particularly looking forward to supporting the Foundation’s education programs and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature.”
The Football champion also reflected on his love for the countryside, which his new role would make him better explore. While he kept mum about Prince William’s supposed involvement in snagging his royal role, David Beckham confirmed his ties to the King with a light-hearted remark about their shared enthusiasm for bee-keeping. Between comparing notes on bee-keeping tips and learning more about rural skills, David would probably have no time on his hands to give his “cut ties” with Prince Harry a second thought.
