Miley Cyrus and her father Billy Ray Cyrus are said to be dealing with a relationship rift. The father and daughter had always appeared to be close since the early days of Miley’s career. They even starred together on the hit Disney Channel series Hannah Montana. However, things have certainly changed since those days. Now, the pair’s relationship appears to be on the rocks, and Miley recently raised eyebrows with some interesting comments about her father.
During a recent interview with David Letterman, Miley Cyrus opened up about her relationships with both of her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus Purcell. The couple divorced in 2022, and since then, things within the famous family have seemingly been strained. Tish has allegedly been on the outs with her youngest daughter, Noah Cyrus. Meanwhile, Miley and Billy Ray have reportedly drifted apart. So, when she was asked about her father, she didn’t hold back, per Us Weekly.
Miley Cyrus Makes Eyebrow Raising Comments About Dad Billy Ray Cyrus
Letterman asked Miley if she considered Billy Ray her hero. However, she pulled focus to her mother instead.
“I mean, honestly, my mom is my hero,” she declared. Meanwhile, she did mention that she was “grateful” to her dad for paving the path for her own career. In addition, Miley says that she got more than just her musical talent from her dad.
“I also inherited the narcissism from my father,” she told the former late-night host. “I don’t know anything about my own siblings except for the part that I was doing. … I was moving to L.A., and that’s all I really knew.”
“My dad had a really rough childhood, and my childhood — I mean, we can go and talk about the hard times or the struggles … but I had food, I had love, I grew up in a beautiful big house, and my dad didn’t have that,” she added.
Miley Cyrus’ comments about her father come just hours after it was reported that the singer had filed for divorce from his wife, Firerose. Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose married in October 2023 after a year-long engagement. So, Miley’s comments seem to come at a time when her dad is already going through a tough time.
Fans later reacted to Miley’s comments. “Ohhhhh wow,” one person tweeted. “I am shocked,” another commented. “Fact check: True,” a third person quipped. “Most artist[s] are narcissistic,” said another fan.
It remains to be seen if Billy Ray Cyrus’ split from Firerose will do anything to help fix his relationship with Miley Cyrus. However, it seems that neither party is opposed to mending fences.
