Like a hungry zombie, The Walking Dead limps past your TV every Sunday. It’s such a popular TV show that Scott Gimple, the showrunner said he could see the popular show lasting for 20 more years. That’s a heck of a goal, but not impossible.

Gimple was speaking at the PaleyFest in Los Angeles and said:

“We are trying to do twenty years. The comic has certainly done it, and I look forward to every issue. The Simpsons ย has been on 26, 27 years, so that’s a challenge – so OK, challenge accepted. Done.”

The Walking Dead is currently in its seventh season, with an eighth one already confirmed by AMC. It doesn’t stick to the comics storyline, say for a few instances, but mostly the show does its own thing to simply drag out story arcs so they can fill more time. The Walking Deadย comic book has been around since 2003 and had a pretty substantial cult followingย until the TV show come out in 2010 and shot it into superstardom.

At this time it’s known how much longer The Walking Dead comic will go on. It’s currently going on issue 166 next month and Robert Kirkman, the creator of it all, said he could see it going onto 200 issues at least. Right now in the show, they’re gearing up to one of the more popular comic arcs called “All Out War” where Rick and crew fight Negan and The Saviours, which are a bunch of ruthless madmen.

Personally, it’s crazy to think that The Walking Dead could be on TV for 20 more years. Especially since there have been reports of the ratings taking a serious nose dive. If it’s true, they’ll have to figure out a way to attract more fans. Or possibly they’ll do another spin-off like Fear The Walking Dead or those webisode one shots they continue to do.
