Another one of reality TV’s big families is splintering. Deon and Karen Derrico, whose lives with their 14 children have been featured on TLC‘s Doubling Down with the Derricos, have quietly separated and finalized their divorce.
Court documents obtained by TMZ show that the couple filed for divorce on June 4 and received their final judgment just two days later. The couple were married in 2005.
The Derricos Will Split Physical and Legal Custody of Their Kids
Legal paperwork indicates that Deon and Karen will split legal and physical custody of their younger 13 children. With the oldest, Darian, being 18, he is not considered in the parenting plan. Neither of the Derricos have commented publicly thus far.
The documents also indicate that Deon will pay $1,166 a month in child support, while Karen will cover medical insurance for all children. Per the agreement, she is also allowed to retain her married name.
The latest season of Doubling Down with the Derricos has shown the couple’s relationship struggling under the weight of their large family. Though the Derrico family has seen tough times before, many fans had a feeling this was different. Now, that feeling has been proven true.
The season finale is set two air in two weeks, on July 2. It’s unclear if the news will be addressed at the time it airs. Still, fans will doubtless be eager for what’s next and watch them navigate co-parenting their large brood while they move on in different directions. Whether or not that journey will continue on TLC remains to be seen.
