This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information.

League of Legends is notorious for releasing a new game mode every month or so, only to take it away after a certain amount of time. Some previous modes include Ultra Rapid Fire, Nexus Siege, Ascension, Legend of the Poro King, One For All, Hexakill, and Doom Bots. Dominion used to be a permanent game mode in League, but Riot took it away after they realized that it wasn’t getting enough attention from players. The same can be said for any game mode they feel isn’t up to their standards. All Random All Mid (ARAM), on the other hand, is a game mode that has been around for a while, and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. The map ARAM is played on, The Howling Abyss, makes for a fast-paced game that players seem to love. But now this popular mode is getting a slight change…

The Howling Abyss, A Single Lane Of Destruction

All Random Summoner’s Rift (ARSR) is the next game mode coming to League of Legends. The difference between this mode and ARAM is that ARSR will be played on the game’s main map, The Summoner’s Rift (hence the name). The mode will also not diverge from how players would earn gold/XP/etc normally playing a game on the Summoner’s Rift. Although ARSR isn’t being released with the intention of making it a permanent game mode, there’ve been reports that this could be a possibility. As Rioter L4T3NCY states below,

“We don’t currently have plans to make ARSR permanent, but we’re not inherently against the idea either. Unlike Dominion or other gameplay heavy modes, this doesn’t need any upkeep patch to patch. For the most part, it ‘just works’. If the game mode turns out to be pretty healthy and #goodtimes for everyone then sure, we could consider if it could be enabled.”ย

The reasoning behind ARSR being made permanent has a lot to do with the ‘all random’ factor of the game mode. The randomness of champion selection would, theoretically, use fewer resources and be much easier to maintain over the span of a long time (unlike Dominion). It would be the first game mode to be made permanent since the demise of Dominion a little more than a year ago.

There’s nothing known for certain yet, except that players of League of Legends will be getting a new game mode to experiment with. Players wanted Ultra Rapid Fire, a game mode that gave players unlimited mana and energy, an 80% cooldown reduction, and enhanced attack speed, movement speed, tenacity, critical strike, and gold income, to be made into a permanent game mode. The gameplay is insane in Ultra Rapid Fire. There are balls of plasma and fire flying everywhere, swords clashing, and other abilities being used like one uses Dr. Mundo’s cleaver. I’m sure that Ultra Rapid Fire will be released again this year on April 1, but to what extent will Riot keep it around if it does come back for another round? Or is ARSR replacing Ultra Rapid Fire this year? We’ll find out!

Most of the time he spends writing, reading (anything from comics to classic literature), playing video games, and wondering when the next Elder Scrolls title will be released. Hopefully soon...
