Royal Family Plagued With Third Health Disaster as Princess Anne Is Hospitalized

Princess Anne is the latest royal family member to suffer a health scare. The Princess Royal was rushed to the hospital over the weekend after suffering a “concussion” from a horse-related accident. Buckingham Palace released a statement about the Princess’ health, revealing that the incident happened in her estate.

“The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening,” the statement began. “Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation.” The palace states Princess Anne is “expected to make a full and swift recovery.” Per Daily Mail, the 73-year-old royal was enjoying a stroll with horses nearby when she suffered an accident. An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene and Princess Anne received First Aid before her transfer to the hospital. Her Husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, has been by her side through it all.

It remains unsure what happened, but the minor wounds to her head suggest an impact from a horse’s legs or head. She wasn’t, however, riding at the time. While Princess Anne remains hospitalized, the palace confirms that King Charles, her brother, has been informed. He sends “his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess.”

What Does Princess Anne’s Accident Mean For the Royal Family?

Princess Anne is the third working royal member to land in the hospital this year. King Charles and Kate Middleton, who are both battling cancer, have had to step back from royal duties since their diagnosis. However, a similar fate might not totally befall the princess, who has the title of the “hardest working royal.”

A representative confirmed that Princess Anne will only miss nine of her upcoming engagements, including a scheduled Royal Visit to Canada on Sunday. “Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result,” the rep explained. Anne will also not attend the Buckingham Palace banquet for the Japanese state visit tomorrow night. Royal sources note that if all goes well, the Princess Royal might be able to return home later this week.
