Gru is back and in hiding in Despicable Me 4. Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) and Patrick Delage, Steve Carell (The Office) and Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids) return to voice their characters, Gru and Lucy. The animated sequel sees Gru and his family hiding out after he helps arrest an old villain he went to school with, Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell). As it is the fourth main entry in the Despicable Me franchise you might wonder if there’s anything after the credits teasing a sequel. So, let’s see if Despicable Me 4 has a post-credits scene.
Is There a Post-Credits Scene in Despicable Me 4?
If you want to see everything the Minions have to offer, you should stay in your seat during the credits as Despicable Me 4 does have a post-credits scene. While there’s no substantial sequel tease that you would need to wait for at the very end of the credits, the main credits are filled with Minion shenanigans. There’s nothing noteworthy about them, but if you want to see everything, don’t leave the theater until the credits are finished. It’s a fairly short movie – with a runtime of 95 minutes – so you should be able to wait until then.
The credits’ structure for the fourth film is in line with the other entries in the franchise, so if you’ve seen the others you should know what to expect. As for a sequel tease, there’s seemingly no set-up for another Despicable Me during the credits or in the main film. Despicable Me 4 ends with a sense of finality, but that doesn’t mean there couldn’t be another entry. None of the other mainline Despicable Me films ended on obvious teases so it’s no real surprise that the fourth film doesn’t either.
Surprisingly, Despicable Me 4 references the other films more than any of the previous entries. That’s part of the reason why it feels that after four main entries and two Minions spinoffs, the franchise could end. But, if it makes anywhere close to what the other films made at the box office, Despicable Me 4 marking the end of the franchise seems unlikely. After all, Despicable Me 4 crossed the $1 billion mark. But, we’ll need to wait and see.
Despicable Me 4 arrives in theaters on July 3, 2024.
