Katy Perry‘s comeback is getting messy. Fans were initially excited to hear her new single “Woman’s World.” However, when they learned she worked on the track with Dr. Luke, whom Kesha accused of sexually assaulting her, all of that hype quickly faded away. Since Perry has yet to explain why she chose to team up with the record producer despite the serious allegations against him, some fans decided to confront the singer about the collaboration in person. Honestly, Perry’s reaction to the criticism was disappointing.
In a video shared by The Hollywood Fix, Perry is seen greeting a crowd of fans in Paris. She took the time to snap a few selfies and even appeared to make a TikTok with someone. After she was done, the former American Idol host headed for her car. As she entered her vehicle, two fans could be heard pressing her about her Dr. Luke collaboration.
One person asked Perry if there was a “reason” she chose to work with Dr. Luke again. Meanwhile, a second fan told the singer it was ironic that she was releasing music about “women empowerment” while collaborating with a man accused of sexual assault. Instead of addressing the controversy, Perry drove off without mentioning anything about Dr. Luke.
Katy Perry and Dr. Luke have a long history together. They’ve collaborated on many of the singer’s biggest hits, including “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls.” Since they’ve proven to be a successful team, it’s possible that’s why Perry chose to reconnect with the record producer despite his sexual assault lawsuit.
According to the Daily Mail, Perry’s team didn’t want her working with Dr. Luke again. However, she allegedly chose to “ignore” their advice. An insider told the publication that the collaboration will likely hurt her album rollout. “She is trying to promote [her album] on female empowerment but working with Dr. Luke screams the opposite,” a source said.
“Woman’s World” will drop on July 11. It’s set to be featured on Perry’s upcoming seventh album.
