Because Grindelwald made an appearance in the last Fantastic Beasts, fans have also been hoping for the chance to see more of Dumbledore’s story. And it looks like we are getting that chance!  Earlier this week, an article on Pottermore announced that Jude Law has been cast as the young Albus Dumbledore in the next Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film.

Last year, it was confirmed that Dumbledore would make an appearance in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts. With the introduction of Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) at the end of the first film, the next film will allow for fans of the series to see the history behind Dumbledore’s relationship with Grindelwald. The director of the series, David Yates, promises some interaction between Dumbledore and Newt Scamander; but, unfortunately, we don’t know how big of a role Dumbledore will play in the remaining films of the series.

Law’s portrayal of Dumbledore will take place long before the famed wizard becomes the Headmaster of Hogwarts. In the film, Dumbledore is still the Transfiguration teacher at the wizarding school. In a statement released about the new Fantastic Beasts film, David Yates had this to say about Jude Law, “Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I’ve long admired and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him.”

David Yates returns to direct another on of J.K. Rowling’s written screenplays for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2. Along with Jude Law, we can expect to see the return of Eddie Redmayne, Johnny Depp, Ezra Miller, and more of the leading cast from Fantastic Beasts. Yates promises that the second iteration in the series will be much darker than the first. The sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to release on November 18, 2018.
