Fans have taken to social media to share their disappointment following Normani’s absence from the BET Awards. The singer was scheduled to perform live at the event at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday. However, thirty minutes before the show began, Normani took to her Instagram Stories to announce she would not be hitting the stage. Turns out Normani sustained an injury during rehearsals.
“I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone believe me. I wanted to get on here and give you guys an update letting you know that while in rehearsals for BET I had a really bad accident and injured myself,” she explained in a statement.
Normani continued, noting that she would usually push through any circumstance. However, she had to cancel the performance due to doctor’s orders. The 28-year-old revealed that while she wanted to give the audience a show, performing on stage would delay her healing. “I am devastated and hate feeling like a disappointment to you but I have to focus on recovering at this time…Thank you so much for understanding. Sending my love to BET for giving me and all of the other beautiful black women this opportunity,” Normani added. The singer shared a picture of herself on crutches in the next slide. Normani wore a boot on her right foot and had a bandage wrapped around her knee.
Fans’ Reactions to Normani’s Injury and BET Awards Absence
The Shade Room reposted the statement shortly after, and fans had much to say. Many believed the injury was not enough excuse for Normani’s absence from the BET Awards. “She ain’t meant to be famous,” one disappointed fan wrote. Another fan with similar sentiments wrote, “Maybe she just wasn’t meant to be famous.” A third fan remarked, “a LEG injury? 🙄 she could’ve still sang Im tired of her victim mentality🤦🏽♂” Another person noted that Normani could’ve bedazzled a chair and sang while sitting. According to them, the star had an album to promote and didn’t do herself good by canceling. Some fans added that Normani’s injury might not even be real, as she was most likely faking it. On the other hand, many other fans supported Normani and wished her a speedy recovery.
