Once Human: PvP or PvE Servers – Which Should You Choose Before You Play?

Remember: higher risk, higher reward

Once Human is finally out now in its full release, and already, there are some big mistakes you might commit before you even play. Once Human will present you with your first choice between PvP or PvE servers before you can create characters. You can’t transfer data between servers later on, which is why picking randomly might not be the best idea. So before you dive in, here’s an explanation of whether to choose PvP or PvE servers in Once Human 1.0.

PvP and PvE Servers Differences in Once Human 1.0

On release, Once Human will have specific names for its PvE and PvP servers. Here’s an explanation for both of them along with the key differences.

It’s worth noting that even PvE servers also have PvP mode (Chaos State) but it’s more limited.

Chaos State here is still the instrumental mode for PvP. You can activate it with a certain button press (hold down ‘P’ by default). Chaos State is basically an indication that you’re ready for hostility. This is what Chaos State does:

  • You can attack other players and their buildings.
    • Lets you attack non-Chaos players in a PvP server.
    • You can’t attack non-Chaos players in a PvE server.
  • Other players can also attack you and your buildings if they’re in Chaos State (also differs between PvE and PvP servers).
  • You can only team up with players in a Chaos State if you are also in it.
  • Chaos State gives a finite number of Chaos Points which you must maintain and increase (through hostile actions against other players) if you want to stay in Chaos State.

With that out of the way, these are the PvE and PvP servers.

Manibus – PvE Server

Limited Chaos State, can’t attack non-Chaos players (PvP mode)
Warband Boss Fights (guild boss fights)
PvE-centric Seasonal goals

For the most part, you get access to maybe 95 percent of the content, unless you consider PvP as a major selling point. If you don’t want other players randomly killing you or trashing your base in high-risk areas, then this might offer a more peaceful start.

If you’re only after exploration and the dungeon elements in Once Human, then pick the Manibus or PvE Server. Again, you can still enter a Chaos State (PvP mode) in a PvE server, don’t worry. But you can only fight Chaos players and not bother non-Chaos players.

Evolution’s Call – PvP Server

Full Chaos State, lets you attack any non-Chaos Level 10+ players (PvP mode)
Access to Stronghold Conquest, a PvP region with lots of good loot
Access to Echo Stones (special PvP loot item, rewards more gacha currency)
Access to Workshop Defense (special PvP base defense mechanic)
Warband Combat (guild vs. guild)
PvP-centric Seasonal goals

Stronghold Conquest is the biggest feature that will be available to you in a PvP server. It’s a region or World where everyone is forced into a constant Chaos State, and you can compete with other players for resources. This is Once Human‘s large-scale PvP mode.

Hence, PvP can be more rewarding, though it’s also riskier as other players might grief you. Such is life.
