After an extremely long and difficult wait, we finally have the release date for season 2 of Severance, but it isn’t coming anytime soon. Apple announced that the continuation of the mind-bending show will premiere on Apple TV+ on January 17, 2025.
Severance season 2 will then get one episode every Friday until March 21, 2025. This means that the season will have 10 episodes, one more than the first season which ended with episode 9. We were also treated to a short teaser that shows the characters in action again; it drops a few hints as to what we can expect.
Without going into spoilers, the first season of Severance from Ben Stiller ended at the very zenith of deep-seated tension that the show had built up to that point. This is why fans were eagerly waiting for the second season to continue where the first one left off.
The first season came out way back in February 2022 and was completed a few months later in April. Even though it was renewed soon after, the reason the release date of season 2 of Severance was pushed back is that it was delayed several times. Although the filming started when it was supposed to, it was paused during the writers’ strike that took place in May 2023. That was followed by the actors’ strike, which further delayed the show. The show finally picked back up production near the start of 2024 and finished filming in April, confirmed Ben Stiller.
The show follows Adam Scott, who works in a company called Lumon that uses severance technology which allows it to separate the professional and personal lives of its select employees. The unique idea isn’t where the show stops, as the mystery and intrigue continue to ramp up as the show goes on.
Apple has been killing it recently with its original shows, and hopefully, Severance season 2 will continue that trend.
