DeMar DeRozan and Drake are trending on social media as their relationship status remains under scrutiny. Recall that the pair established a good rapport in the mid-2010s when the NBA star played for the Toronto Raptors. DeRozan and Drake maintained their bond for years, even appearing together on the cover of Slam Magazine’s 6 God’s issue in 2016. However, in June 2024, DeRozan raised eyebrows when he appeared on stage at Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out Show in LA amid the latter’s beef with Drake. A few weeks later, the 34-year-old caused more tongues to wag when he appeared in Lamar’s Not Like Us video.
The 37-year-old rapper released the video for his diss track aimed at Drake. In the track, Lamar claimed he was glad DeRozan came home because Toronto didn’t deserve him. Considering DeMar DeRozan and Drake’s relationship, fans questioned whether the pair were still on good terms. However, following his controversial Not Like Us video cameo, the Sacramento Kings player has clarified his stance with the Canadian rapper. During a chat with Fox40 Sports‘ Sean Cunningham, DeRozan revealed he still loved Drake.
“Love Drake. We always can play him,” DeRozan said about playing Drake’s songs at the Sacramento Kings’ arena.
However, the former Toronto Raptors star noted that Lamar had been his friend for the longest time. “We from the same city grew up damn near in the same neighborhood. So it’s always been there. It hasn’t always been publicized, but that’s basically family,” he said. Cunningham reposted the interview on X, and some fans took DeRozan’s side. They noted that the cameo wasn’t wrong, as it was normal for DeRozan to be cordial with both rappers. According to them, he played in Drake’s city for years, and at the same time, he was from Compton, like Lamar. Meanwhile, the God’s Plan rapper has not said anything about the Not Like Us video. Drake has remained quiet about his beef with Lamar since releasing The Heart Part 6. Meanwhile, Lamar has since caused shockwaves with his show in LA and the Not Like Us video.
