The world was deeply saddened by the news of Shannen Doherty‘s death. The actress’s passing marked the end of a courageous battle with cancer, a fight she faced with grace and resilience. Following her death, Shannen Doherty’s mother, Rosa Doherty, has come forward to express her heartfelt gratitude. During an exclusive chat with People on Monday, the grieving mom thanked the public for the outpouring of support and love shown to her late daughter.
“She is my beautiful girl and my heart. Our family wants to thank everyone who has shown love and support for our Shannen throughout her life. We are truly appreciative,” Rosa said.
Shannen Doherty’s mother’s appreciative words came a day after the news of the movie star’s demise broke on the internet. In a statement shared on Sunday, Leslie Sloane confirmed Shannen Doherty’s death occurred the previous day.
“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” Shannen’s longtime publicist revealed.
She continued, describing the Charmed star as a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Sloane also noted Shannen was surrounded by her loved ones and her Dog, Bowie, at the time of her passing. In the concluding part of her statement, Sloane revealed that the family wanted some privacy to grieve in peace.
Shannen first announced she had breast cancer in 2015 after legal documents surfaced, revealing she was suing her former business manager. In the lawsuit, Shannen claimed he mismanaged her money and allowed her health insurance to lapse, which meant she could not go to the doctor. As a result, the Hollywood icon received a delayed diagnosis, which allowed the cancer to spread. In August 2016, Shannen revealed the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes. To make matters worse, the actress disclosed that she believed she would be dead within five years. However, in 2017, Shannen announced she was in remission, but the joy would last only a few years.
In February 2020, the illness returned as stage four metastatic cancer. The next few years were tough, with Shannen also revealing the cancer had spread to her brain. Unfortunately, despite fighting hard and hoping for a miracle, Shannen eventually lost the battle at 52. Hopefully, her family will endure this difficult time with strength and love.
