Mama June‘s drug addiction might come back to bite her amid custody battle for her granddaughter, Kaitlyn, from her late daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell. She is currently in court with her daughter’s ex, Michael Cardwell. In a recent update on the case, the opposition might use Mama June’s past to discredit her role as a guardian.
In a new filing ahead of the final hearing, June’s occupational medicine doctor was subpoenaed to give an update on her sobriety. “You are hereby subpoenaed: drug test results from January 1, 2023 to present for your patient June Shannon,” the document read obtained by The Sun. The doctor will have to confirm if she has indeed been sober all these years. The Mama June: From Not to Hot star has claimed to be sober since January 2020. However, she has been faced with speculations that her sobriety is false. In December 2023, the reality star had to address the rumors.
After acting erratic on a TikTok Live session, the 44-year-old defended her actions. She told TMZ, “I have been straight sober since Jan 27, 2020. I don’t do drugs, I don’t smoke cigarettes and I don’t even drink.” She explained that production network WeTV required weekly drug tests for filming to take place, so there is no way she could have been using. Mama June echoed a similar statement last month in the aftermath of Anna Chickadee’s death. The television personality noted that her daughter’s death made her laser-focused on her sobriety.
Mama June Looks Unrecognizable In Recent Sightings
Although Mama June has stayed off drugs, she has turned to weight loss medications to gain control of her life. The mother-of-four began using weight loss injections after her daughter’s death. According to her, the stress of caring for Anna during her cancer battle, caused her to stress eat. She gained over 130lbs. The reality star uses Semaglutide popularly known as Ozempic and Mounjaro.
Four months after starting the injections, Mama June made impressive progress. In a health update, she said, “Iโm in week nine and you can ask the girls โ I am so super strict. I probably lost 30 pounds in like eight and a half weeks.”
