Resident Evil: Vendetta is the third movie in the widely popular CG animated franchise, following Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) and Resident Evil: Damnation (2012). From what we have seen of the trailers so far, Vendetta looks like it has just as much, if not more, action as the first two movies. The story is set in between RE6 and RE7 and will pick up with Chris Redfield, who’s seeking the help of Leon Kennedy and Rebecca Chambers after a deadly virus starts spreading across New York City.
Vendetta will only be shown for one day in select theaters on June 19. You can check your local theater showings here. Despite the limited release, however, fans who are anxious to buy the movie will not have to wait long at all. Sony Pictures announced that Resident Evil: Vendetta would be available for digital release on June 20, just one day after its theatrical premiere. Following this, the film will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray on July 18. Resident Evil: Vendetta is Sony’s first 4K UHD Dolby Vision Blu-ray film.

The 4K ultra HD/Blu-ray combo pack and 2-disc Blu-ray will include three featurettes- “The Creature, Motion Capture Set Tour with Dante Carver”, and “CGI to Reality: Designing Vendetta”. The DVD bonus content will include a still gallery of up to 30 sketches and designs, along with filmmaker audio commentary.
Below is Sony’s statement concerning the movie’s featurettes:
In “Motion Capture Set Tour with Dante Carver,” motion capture actor Dante Carver guides fans on an exclusive tour of the set with a detailed look at motion capture creation and cast interviews. The CGI animators are featured in two pieces: in “The Creature”, they walk fans through the process of designing monsters in the film; and in “CGI to Reality: Designing Vendetta” they discuss how they created a new aesthetic in an evolving franchise.
Fans will assemble with the BSAA Operatives team to receive the intelligence briefing to defeat a deadly threat in “BSAA Mission Briefing: Combat Arias,” while Director Takanori Tsujimoto and his creative team lead fans in a conversation on the film’s design aesthetic and what it took to evolve the story in “Designing the World of Vendetta.”
