Katy Perry had users thinking her dress was either a “tablecloth” or a “napkin” as she went down the embroidered, doily-style route this Spring. In April 2024, the pop singer attended the 35th Annual Colleagues Spring Luncheon in Beverly Hills, CA, and she made sure to dress appropriately for the event.
Looking glamorous in white, Katy ditched her itty-bitty shorts and tank tops for a chic midi dress, but fans seeing the photos didn’t prove keen. Katy, 39, wound up mocked on both The Daily Mail and Just Jared, and it looks like everyone was saying the same thing.
Katy Perry Shows Off Luncheon Style In Beverly Hills
All smiles in a column midi gown that flashed her slimmed-down shoulders and hints of her legs, Katy modeled a form-fitting white dress with embroidered hole detailing.
Injecting preppy, old-fashioned garden party vibes into her look, the American Idol judge wore thin neck ties for straps as she highlighted her recent weight loss, teaming her dress with a white pair of strappy high heels. Looking summery and chic as she wore her dark tresses down, Katy flashed her mega-watt smile for the cameras, keeping glam with matte makeup, dark eyeliner, and a red lip.
In a touching moment, Katy chose to invite parents Mary Perry and Keith Hudson as her dates.
Getting ‘Napkin’ And ‘Tablecloth’ Comments
Over on Just Jared, one fan called the dress “tablecloth wear.” Meanwhile, on The Daily Mail, users were thinking similar, with one saying: “My Grandma had an old tablecloth made out of flour bags that looked just like that dress.” Over 40 fans liked the comment.
“That dress looks like it was cut out of a frilly place mat,” another wrote. Agreeing, a further user replied: “The dress looks like a paper doily.”
Others, meanwhile, commented on the “Woman’s World” singer’s weight loss, with many speculating that she might be using Ozempic. Katy has never admitted to using the weight loss drug. She has, however, proven a talking point this month as reviews of her comeback single prove very mixed.
Katy was slammed by her own Instagram followers last week as she held an electric bedazzled grill while striking poses in a bathing suit. Users criticized her, stating that she wasn’t sending out a female empowerment message at all. The hate came on top of the backlash the star has already faced for having controversial producer Dr. Luke working on both her single and upcoming 143 album.
Katy is now reported to have her team working on an emergency plan amid the lukewarm response to her new beats.
