Simone Biles’ fans are loyal; they also don’t forget anything, and it seems many of them have yet to approve of her husband, Jonathan Owens. For those unfamiliar with the situation, Owens said some things in a previous interview that many of Biles’ fans feel were hurtful and disrespectful to her. The Olympic medalist has also made comments in 2023 during Peacock’s Back That Year Up that her husband feels he is a better athlete (he is an NFL player).
“We fought over it a couple of times, and then we vowed once we got married, we wouldn’t talk about it again,” she said at the time. “But it keeps coming up every time. He has done my workout in the gym, and he could barely do it, and then I went to their NFL workout and I crushed it.” So, with this in mind, it’s not all that surprising that when Biles took to Instagram to celebrate her husband’s birthday, not everyone was thrilled.

Simone Biles’ birthday tribute was super sweet as she celebrated her husband. “Happy happy birthday to my husband, best friend, confidant and party goer,” she wrote in the caption. “Thanks for being the calm to my storm! i love you with all my heart and I can’t wait to see what this year brings! let’s do it big baby wish I was there to celebrate you, but I’ll see you soon!!! XO @jowens”
“Happy Birthday! Who is your husband though?” a commenter wrote as a clear diss to Owens. There have also been a lot of fans referring to him as “Mr. Biles” instead of Owens. Other reactions include, “you deserve sm better” and comments from fans that they “don’t trust him.” Another fan offered context on the situation, including the previous comments that Owens made in an interview with The Pivot podcast (via People) in 2023. In it, Owens claimed, “I always say that the men are the catch.”
They ended their comment with, “So I think ppl have humbled him a bit, he should realize SHE’S the catch AND the better athlete, and he’s the one who’ll be known as Mr.Biles/ Simone Biles’ husband.”
No one can deny that Simone Biles is a serious athlete and a force to be reckoned with.
