Ever wanted to try a Krabby Patty in real life? Are the unique and extravagant foods televisions shows tend to create even feasible to make, let alone eat in real life? Youtube Chef Andrew Rea looks to answer these question – as well as make mouth-watering treats – on his channel, Binging With Babish.

Rea started his Youtube endeavor on February 10, 2016, when he posted his first video on the channel, centered around the burgers in the “Soulmates” episode of Parks and Rec. The chef continued to make videos about once a month, gaining notoriety with each submission.

Rea’s rendition of “the moistmaker”

It wasn’t until November of 2016 that he began to attain the mainstream attention of audiences like Reddit and The Huffington Post. He created an episode for “the moistmaker,” a meal made up of Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich made famous by Ross Geller on Friends, and that’s when it started to set in that he could do things full time.

Since then, Rea has put in his resignation as a visual effects artist – with the job ending in may – and began making a video a week. He’s stated that each episode takes roughly 15 to 30 hours to produce, with cost varying, but tending to be around $100.

Exceptions are extravagant dishes like Woodhouse eggs Benedict from FX’s Archer, in which the Youtuber spent $300 on Iberico ham, black truffles, Kashmiri saffron, and white sturgeon Osetra caviar, all items included in the dish. But the Babish star can certainly afford it all now, thanks to the help of Patreon and advertising.

Ad revenue from the millions of views Rea’s Youtube channel receives on each video, combined with the money contributed by around 1,400 patron users, in excess of $6,000 per month, make it possible for the chef to create these expensive and weird dishes.

The Youtube star is certainly not resting on his laurels though, as he has already landed a book deal with Dovetail Press called Eat What You Watch: A Cookbook for Movie Lovers. He is also exploring television deals, as well as streaming service deals with Netflix and Hulu.

For more information on Rea’s and his TV-inspired dishes, head over to his Youtube channel, Binging With Babish. Be sure to check out his latest dish, Homer Simpson’s moon waffles, comprised of caramel candy, store-bought batter, and liquid smoke that is cooked in a waffle iron and wrapped around a stick of butter.
