Machine Gun Kelly has been an open book lately. The musician recently talked about his secret trip to rehab and is now explaining his family’s deep, dark secret. The singer opened up about how his father, at the age of nine, was on trial for the murder of his own father. MGK was asked about the situation while on the Dumb Blonde podcast. Kelly was shocked to be asked the question as it is little-known information.
As reported by In Touch Weekly, The story that Machine Gun Kelly was always told was that his grandfather had dropped the weapon, and his head “essentially blew off.” Kelly continued by saying that all of this happened in the same room as his father. When the Police arrived, they found the gun under the bed, so he and Kelly’s grandmother were tried for murder.
Machine Gun Kelly Recalls His Childhood
“I always used to get so mad at him when I was a kid,” he recalled of his dad. “‘Cause if I scared him or he heard a loud boom or a loud noise, he would freak out, like gnarly freakout … And then you think about a kid who was on trial at 9 years old for the murder of his father.”
Kelly then took a dive into his father’s mental health after the accident. The singer/songwriter compared his father to Patrick Bateman from American Psycho as the things he did were always “black and white.” Kelly continues by saying, “There’s no gray area.”
MGK also recalls his tough childhood as his father dealt with mental health issues. Kelly’s father was diagnosed with a split personality disorder. Schizophrenia also runs in their family.
Despite his rough childhood, Machine Gun Kelly still has fond memories of his late father. MGK has even dedicated some songs to the man. As Kelly continues to better himself, the memory of his father seems to remain at the front of his mind.
