The Kanye West and Taylor Swift feud just got more fascinating. The pair’s story began with the infamous 2009 MTV Video Music Awards incident and has taken many twists and turns. Now, it seems Swift is overshadowing Ye, this time in the realm of Billboard chart success. Recently, Swift ended the rapper’s streak of 11 number-one albums on Billboard 200 after Kanye West’s Vultures 2 debuted at number 2. Ye released the album with singer Ty Dolla $ign on August 3, 2024. Vultures 2 sold an estimated 107,000 equivalent album units in its first week.
Unfortunately for Kanye West and his Vultures 2 album, Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department topped the chart for the week ending on August 8. The album ended Ye’s streak with sales of 142,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. The feat marked the 14th week the album occupied the number-one spot since its release in April 2024. Before Swift, Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time had spent 19 weeks (non-consecutively). The time frame spanned March of 2023 to March of 2024.
Meanwhile, the professional achievement comes nearly 15 years after Taylor Swift and Kanye West’s enmity began. In 2009, Ye made the headlines when he crashed the stage and interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs. While the Yeezy mogul revealed he was happy for Swift, he noted that Beyonce was more deserving of the award. “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, imma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!” Ye said. For the next couple of years, the duo managed to make up, and things seemed to be going well. However, in 2016, another misunderstanding broke out after the release of Ye’s song Famous. Since then, Taylor Swift and Kanye West have yet to resolve their differences. The pair are now focused on attaining new milestones in their careers.
