General Hospital star Kate Mansi is generating a lot of buzz for her role as Kristina Corinthos-Davis. The actress was cast as Sonny Corinthos and Alexis Davis’ daughter in May 2023, taking over from Lexi Ainsworth. Mansi is no stranger to soap operas, previously played Abby Deveraux on Days of Our Lives on and off from 2011 to 2020. Like the Abby role, Kristina was a recast and the star had a tough job ahead of her.
Being a soap opera recast, actors and actresses face criticism. Many fans aren’t too welcoming to a new person taking over a role. With the character of Kristina, many viewers were upset with Mansi replacing the adored Ainsworth. Although Kate is a big name, her run as Kristina hasn’t lived up the the hype.
Kate Mansi is the Target of Online Harassment From General Hospital Fans
General Hospital fans are opinionated about the soap opera, and many express their views online. Since many actors and actresses are active on social media, it doesn’t take long the criticisms to reach their pages.
Last week’s storyline of Kristina and Blaze’s breakup, and Blaze’s departure upset a lot of viewers. Some of them went as far as attacking Mansi online, but the actress wasn’t having any of it. On her X account, the Daytime Emmy winner engaged in several arguments with internet trolls.
One of the topics of that sparked outrage between the actress and her fans is Kristina’s sexuality. Kristina is bisexual, but recently the writers hinted that she is gay, which confused viewers.
One fan posted:
I was under the impression she was gay.
Mansi replied with, “And you were wrong. Before you throw out labels and threats – check your facts.”
The actress’ response set off a firestorm of criticism from other fans.
“Yet she’s out here running her mouth acting like she does control storylines,” one user wrote.
Kate responded:
Actually, I was correcting an inaccuracy.
Another fan accused the actress of getting her co-star Jacqueline Grace Lopez fired. “Have decided to switch it up a bit… I don’t think the actress was ever comfortable with the gay role. Poor jac.”
But Mansi fired back:
Let me help you – the REASON I signed on for this role was BECAUSE it was an LGBTQIA+ story that was presented to me and I felt it was important to tell and I speak on that constantly.
After responding to negative comments, the star decided she had enough. In a post, she wrote:
I won’t be responding to this issue further. These are unwarranted. I’ll be channeling my energy and gratitude towards positivity and anyone who wants to join me there is welcome.
Like many soap stars, Kate Mansi is facing the harsh world of internet trolls. Although some soap fans haven’t been too nice to her, she still has some loyal supporters. While she’s still bound to receive criticism because of Kristina’s current storyline, the actress is learning to ignore the haters and focus on the positive.
