Mariah Carey was straight-up body-shamed as photos of her in a stylish black dress circulated the internet back in 2015. The singer, 55, has since made headlines for losing weight, but it looks like the fuller-figured Mariah was a target for online trolls prior to slimming down.
Enjoying an outing in Malibu as she ditched her signature glitter minidresses, Mariah flaunted her curves in a chic black dress, one boasting a leggy finish and a daring neckline. When The Daily Mail let fans know about Mariah’s latest look, users shamed her, calling her “chunky” and “chubby,” although some did send love. Mariah’s 2024 figure is now so slender, fans are even wondering if she used weight loss drug Ozempic to achieve it.

Photographed descending some outdoor steps, Mariah looked sensational in a form-fitting black dress with a long back and thigh-skimming front length.
Flashing her legs as she highlighted her hourglass waistline, the Grammy winner rocked clingy fabrics and long sleeves, plus a classic circle neckline that accentuated her curves up top. Smiling in some photos and rocking shades, Mariah wowed in her Alice + Olivia number, opting out of her usual top-end designer brands and even choosing a label adored by talk show host Kelly Ripa.
Injecting some animal prints via her stiletto heels, Mariah nailed her weekend look, one she completed with racy black fishnet stockings. Wearing virtually no accessories, Mariah did, however, keep glam with a full face of makeup, making sure to apply plenty of blush to her high cheekbones.
Body-Shamers Calling Her ‘Chubby’
Topping replies was a fan inferring that Mariah is larger in real life versus her social media or album photos. “Safe to say album cover has been airbrushed within an inch of its life,” they said.
Noting that The Daily Mail had called Mariah’s legs “shapely,” one fan gained over 500 upvotes for challenging the outlet. “Shapely???? Don’t you mean Chunky???” they wrote.
“Very shapely legs”…you mean chubby,” was yet another shaming remark. Some, however, weren’t keen on the level of bashing Mariah was being subject to. Defending the mom of two and noting her 45 years at the time of the photos, one user said:
“I don’t care that Mariah is heavier now, she’s in her forties and has had babies! It’s unfortunate that the clothes she tends to wear nowadays makes her look heavier than she is! Also Mariah also invites a barrage of criticism by airbrushing her albums as much as she does…”
Mariah’s Instagram is these days filled with her slimmed-down figure. The singer has never confirmed using Ozempic, although much of last year saw her fans alleging use.
