Beyonce is making it clear where her allegiance stands for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. Although she hasn’t formally endorsed anyone, the legendary singer gifted her inspirational anthem, Freedom, to Democratic candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign. However, in a surprising twist, Donald Trump recently hopped on the theme song, evoking an unpleasant reaction from Queen Bey.
A day after the Republican presidential candidate strutted to the Lemonade track, Beyonce brought out the big guns. Per Rolling Stone, she threatened to send a cease-and-desist. A source claimed that Trump and his campaign team had not received permission to use her song. However, that is not the case for the Harris-Walz campaign, which received Bey’s blessing from the start. Recall that the VP kickstarted her campaign on July 22, making an entrance into her campaign headquarters while Freedom played. She has since continued using the song, including on Night one of the Democratic National Convention, where she was officially nominated.
Team Harris/Walz aired a new ad to kick off the convention, using an unheard a capella version of Freedom sung by Beyonce. Actor Jeffrey Wright voiced the narration, saying:
“What kind of America do we want? One where we’re divided, angry, depressed? C’mon! We’re Americans! Fascism? We conquered it. The moon? Landed on it. The future? Building it. Freedom? Nobody loves it more.”
Donald Trump Shamelessly Hijacked Beyonce’s Freedom
However, while the DNC was going on, Trump pulled a stunt of his own. His campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, posted a clip of him disembarking a plane in Michigan to attend a rally. The former president walked majestically on the tarmac, even making a power fist in the air. Members of the Beyhive wasted no time predicting legal action against the disgraced politician. “@Beyonce, I know she didn’t green-light this nonsense… I can’t wait until her legal team finds you,” warned one fan. Another declared:
“And now you will be sued, again, for Copyright Infringement. You, folks, are destroying yourselves, good job.”
Trump has received several legal threats for using some songs during his campaign. Celine Dion, Isaac Hayes, and Adele are among the many artists who have publicly spoken against the twice-impeached former President. Maybe a Beyonce lawsuit will be the final deterrent for Trump.
