‘Too Short!’ Cry Warframe Players After Finishing the New Lotus Eaters Quest

Lotus Eaters served an appetizer

No other Warframe update has been as hyped as Warframe 1999. The devs sometimes even refer to it as Warframe 2. While that’s still a few months away from its Winter 2024 release, Digital Extremes promised a bit of a teaser and short quest in the form of Lotus Eaters to keep the flame burning hot. Now that it’s here and players have finished the Lotus Eater quest, they seem to think little of it– literally, because Lotus Eaters is too short.

I have played the quest myself and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t somewhat underwhelmed by Lotus Eater’s length. After all, Lotus Eaters was supposed to explain how and why the Drifter or player character got into 1999 and the relevance of the new setting.

After the Lotus herself transported me to a decrepit 1999 mall using a pager (such ancient tech!), the quest had me following a mutant Sphinx cat and opening a device in an empty office room. Then, the curtains fall and the quest ends. Much of the exposition was relayed to me in a narrated email afterward.

The whole mission took three minutes tops. There were no enemies to slay and not even one traditional mission objective. It’s practically more of a teaser. The players also share the same sentiment.

It's… short.

Digital Extremes Did Say It Was a Short Quest

Back in TennoCon 2024, Digital Extremes and its representatives mentioned that Lotus Eaters will indeed be a short quest. It was supposed to be an introductory piece to the much bigger Warframe 1999 update.

However, after the Lotus Eaters update release, Digital Extremes still released a statement on X that they should’ve clarified it better. Here’s the Tweet.

Our communication around The Lotus Eaters has caused some confusion. While it was not our intention to over-hype this update made in the short span between Jade Shadows and TennoCon, we realize we should have consistently labeled it a Prologue rather than a "short Quest."

Lotus Eaters should have been a Prologue instead of a quest, apparently. This isn’t the first time the devs have released a quest or Prologue that you can complete in under five minutes. However, they typically labeled the short quests as Prologues in the past.

Digital Extremes also released an additional statement saying they’ll be more mindful about labeling updates and missions in the future. Also, if the update left you hanging, then you needn’t worry. Warframe‘s unannounced Fall update is apparently close to release now and should keep the bloodthirsty space ninjas sated before Warframe 1999 arrives in winter.

For now, you might want to check every nook and cranny of that 1999 mall for Easter eggs. Or just go back to farming Sevagoth Prime.
