Are you ready Walking Dead fans? This Sunday, Fear the Walking Dead is back for an all-new third season. This two-hour season premiere will be picking up from right where we left off in season two. There has been so much news and buzz around this third season that I’m actually somewhat upset with myself that I haven’t been able to report on all of it. This new season of Fear the Walking Dead will introduce all new characters, locations and…as it turns out, a returning cast member. After already seeing the first two episodes, I can tell you that this season hits the ground running.
As mentioned earlier, season three of Fear the Walking Dead picks up almost immediately following the season two finale. Nick and Luciana have been captured by some type of military outfit at the American/Mexican border, with Luciana being wounded in a firefight. Madison, Travis, and Alicia who were not far behind appear to have been captured by the same outfit as well in their search for Nick. Ofelia had broken off from the main group way back at the hotel in Mexico. We last saw Ofelia being captured by a mysterious figure (Dayton Callie) when trying to cross the border. It certainly appears that Dayton Callie is also part of this unknown military outfit. Lastly, Victor Strand stayed behind at the Mexican hotel and if you’ve seen the previews, things don’t appear to be going well for him.

This season of Fear the Walking Dead will be introducing some new series regulars. Dayton Callie will be playing Jeremiah Troy, the apparent leader of the unknown militia. His two sons Troy and Jake, are played by Daniel Sherman and Sam Underwood. They are brothers but with different mothers. They are described as polar opposites which will no doubt lead to some conflict this season. Emma Caulfield (Buffy the Vampire) will also be playing a role in this new season. In more recent news, it appears that Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades) will be making his return in this season of Fear the Walking Dead. The last time we saw Daniel was in the episode “Shiva” where initially it appeared he may have died in a fire. Showrunner Dave Erickson had this to say about Daniel,
“We’ve said publicly that he didn’t die in the fire and I think what was always important is that the characters, specifically Ofelia, thought that they had lost him. So I think his return is now long overdue and I can promise that Daniel Salazar will rise again over the course of the season.”
One last piece of interesting information regards Cliff Curtis who plays Travis Manawa. It was recently announced that Cliff Curtis has signed on for a lead role in all four of James Camerons next Avatar films. Which has led to much speculation about Travis’s fate this season? Are you excited for the return of Fear the Walking Dead? What are your predictions for this season? Be sure to let us know in the comments below and check back this Sunday for our review of the two-hour premiere.
