Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck haven’t spoken publicly about their split. However, it seems that the end of their marriage was messy. JLo filed for divorce from the Batman actor on the two-year anniversary of their Georgia wedding. In the filing, it was revealed that the couple had split in the spring. Sources claim that while Lopez tried everything to try to fix her marriage, Affleck was uncooperative and gave up on their relationship.
According to Life and Style, Ben Affleck washed his hands of Jennifer Lopez and their marriage quickly after their split. Instead of trying to work on their issues, he moved out of their home and opted to spend most of their time apart.
Ben Affleck Gave up on Jennifer Lopez Marriage Early On
“This has been a long time coming; Jen and Ben have been separated since April, when he asked for space and moved out,” an insider tells the outlet.
“Ultimately, the marriage was not fixable. When the marriage began to fall apart, JLo held out hope they could fix it, even canceling her summer tour in May, but Ben had no intention of working on things,” the source continued. “The more time they spent apart, the more clear it became to him the marriage was a mistake.”
Lopez was said to be heartbroken over the split, as she thought their relationship would last the second time around. The singer took the actor’s last name, and they didn’t sign a prenup.
After months of speculation, JLo finally filed for divorce. The informant claims that leaving the divorce decision in Lopez’s hands was “like a parting gift” from Affleck.
“She saw pulling the plug on the day of their anniversary as a bit of sweet revenge. He really doesn’t care, though. Ben gave up on their relationship long ago.”
People Magazine claims that Lopez was forced to take care of Affleck in a “childlike” way, almost becoming like a parent to him as he navigated his dark moods. The singer was allegedly reminded by those close to her that she wasn’t responsible for his moods despite spending much of her time ensuring that Affleck was happy.
