Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are reportedly going through a rough patch. The comedian was seemingly forced into retirement after allegations of a toxic work environment got her blacklisted from Hollywood. Unfortunately, it seems the time at home isn’t pleasing to Portia, who allegedly needs “space” from her talk show hostwife.
Close sources revealed that the couple’s problems were evident at their recent 16th wedding anniversary. “They just celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary [on August 16], but it wasn’t exactly celebratory,” the insider alleged. “Ellen being home all the time has taken a toll on their marriage.” The informant added that Portia does not go to work, which makes the situation more tense.
“They’re always in each other’s face, and frankly, they’re getting on each other’s nerves.”
According to the source, the tension sucks for the Arrested Development actress as she was the one who convinced DeGeneres to retire from her talk show. “Now, Portia probably wishes she hadn’t,” says the insider. “She doesn’t have her space. Every time she turns around, there’s Ellen.” It also doesn’t help that Ellen’s Last Stand … Up tour isn’t doing well after the canceled dates.
Ellen DeGeneres Sells California Estate After Two Years
The reports about DeGeneres and Portia’s marriage come after they offloaded their sprawling California estate. Earlier this month, they sold their 10-acre estate in Santa Barbara County for a whopping $96 million. The couple first purchased the massive property in 2022 for $70 million. It boasts five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, access to a private beach, and more luxurious amenities. Per The Wall Street Journal, mining magnate Robert Friedland bought the house.
According to the sources who spoke to InTouch Weekly, the sale of the luxurious Tuscan-style mansion contributed to their marital issues. It seems Portia wasn’t on board with the decision. “Ellen is known for flipping houses, but this one is different. It was their dream home,” mentioned the source.
