Ubisoft pleasantly surprised fans everywhere when they announcedย Skull & Bonesย at this year’s E3. Based on the gameplay shown, the project appeared to be an online multiplayer pirate battle that took inspiration fromย Assassin’s Creed: Black Flags.ย However, in an interview with PC Gamer, Ubisoft recently announced that the game will feature a story campaign as well.

Despite this new information, it is still unclear as to what the story campaign will look like exactly. An Ubisoft representative said that the game “will offer a narrative campaign which will be integrated into the game and will not be something aside of the multiplayer experience. In this campaign, players will encounter iconic characters and memorable rival pirates. More details will be shared at a later date.” At E3, they said thatย Skull & Bones could be enjoyed alone or with a group of friends, but the emphasis is definitely on the multiplayer aspects of the game. However, although vague, the information hints that the story mode and multiplayer will be a part of the same experience.

During their E3 showcase, Ubisoft only showed one player versus player game type, Loot Hunt, in their newest pirate adventure. Needless to say, fans can expect to see many more game types that could be PvP and maybe even PvE.

The team that created the fan favorite Assassin’s Creed: Black Flags (and the beloved naval-combat that comes along with it) is the same one behind Ubisoft’s newest pirate adventure.ย Skull & Bonesย is set to release in fall of 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Withย Far Cry 5 andย Assassin’s Creed Origins also set to release shortly, it looks like Ubisoft has a pretty good lineup for the coming year.
