One of the OGs, the Trapper is typically among the first Killers players learn in Dead by Daylight. There are arguably more exciting ones available now, but there’s nothing wrong with using the troubled Evan MacMillan to commit mass murder. He’s reliable and can still get even the best Survivors. There are solid builds for the Trapper whether you’re a beginner in Dead by Daylight or a seasoned Killer.
The Trapper: Unique Loadout
In DBD, the Trapper lives up to his nickname. He’s all about laying out bear traps for unsuspecting victims. Although The Cleaver is his primary weapon that’ll knock Survivors down, the Bear Trap is a great power.
Beyond that, the Trapper has the following unique perks that can be used when constructing his builds in Dead by Daylight:
- Agitation: Increases the Terror Radius by +12 meters and Increases Movement Speed by 6/12/18% when carrying a Survivor
- Brutal Strength: Increases Action speeds by 10/15/20% for breaking pallets and walls and damaging generators
- Unnerving Presence: Inflicts Survivors healing or repairing within your Terror Radius with effects:
- Increase Trigger odds of Skill Checks by 10%
- Decreases Success zone of Skill Checks by 40/50/60%
Of course, you can make a strong build for the Trapper using his unique perks or opting for the others in the game. Much of it will depend on both your skill level and type of playstyle.
Best Beginner Trapper Builds in Dead by Daylight
The Trapper is an easy first-time Killer, but let’s not mistake simplicity for a clean win for Survivors. You can sweep as a beginner, and you won’t need prestige or anything. Instead, a reliable beginner build for the Trapper only uses base perks any Killer player will have in Dead by Daylight.
Build 1
Perk | Where to Find It | What It Does |
---|---|---|
Agitation | Trapper | While carrying Survivors, increase movement speed and Terror Radius |
Sloppy Butcher | General | Basic Attack causes Hemorrhage and Mangled |
Whispers | General | When Survivors are nearby, you’ll hear the whispers from the Entity |
Hex: No One Escapes Death | General | If a Dull Totem remains when the Exit Gates open, you gain Haste and all Survivors are Exposed |
This build is straightforward for beginner DBD Trapper players. You can stay on the move and cause severe damage with your Basic Attack, especially if Survivors try to block you when carrying. Finding Survivors is easy enough, and if all else fails, your Hex will make it easier to clean house at the end. Hexes are always fun too because you can simply trap them up for protection.
Build 2
For this next Trapper build, we want to keep the Dead by Daylight perks like Agitation and Whispers. With those, we’ll add these:
Perk | Where to Find It | What It Does |
---|---|---|
Brutal Strength | Trapper | Faster Action Speed when breaking pallets, walls, and generators |
Iron Grasp | General | While carrying Survivors, Wiggle strength decreases and the duration increases |
This is a fun build when you want to ensure no one ever wiggles free. If you’re aiming for a fast 4-way hook, this is a good way to try and get it. Just don’t forget to utilize your traps too.
Best Advanced Trapper Builds in Dead by Daylight
When we talk about advanced builds, we want to make good use of perks that come from other Killers. This means much longer playtime and additional DLCs.
Build 1
The first build takes from the Trapper perks with Brutal Strength, but it comes with these other Dead by Daylight abilities to create a silent, stalker-like Killer setup. It’s an exciting design for those who like leaning on the scarier serial killer aspect of the Trapper.
Perk | Where to Find It | What It Does |
---|---|---|
Dragon’s Grip | Blight | For 30 seconds after damaging a generator, the first Survivor who touches it screams and is Exposed |
Deerstalker | General | Survivors in the Dying State within a certain distance of you have their Aura’s revealed |
Insidious | General | After standing still for a certain amount of time, you’re given the Undetectable effect |
Build 2
For our next Trapper build, let’s cater to DBD players who enjoy basement plays. This one will rely on the Trapper Perk Agitation. You’ll need the other three below to fully embrace this basement attack:
Iron Grasp | General | Wiggle strength is reduced and duration increases |
Lightborn | Hillbilly | Reveals the Auras of Survivors attempting to blind you |
Scourge Hook: Monstrous Shrine | General | At the start, four random Hooks and all four basement Hooks turn into Scourge Hooks and their Auras are revealed to you in white |
Build 3
This build goes out to the Dead by Daylight Killers who want to slow Survivors down as much as possible. It works early game and end game, so you can be a nuisance throughout:
Corrupt Intervention | Plague | At the start, three generators furthest from you are blocked by the Entity for a few seconds |
No Way Out | Trickster | When the Exit Gates open and a Survivor interacts with the Switch, there’s a notification, and the Entity temporarily blocks both Switches |
Deadlock | Cenobite | When a generator is completed, the Entity temporarily blocks the generator with the most progression |
Pop Goes the Weasel | Clown | Activates for a few seconds when you Hook a Survivor; when you damage a generator, it instantly regresses it by -20% |
