With each passing day, AI is becoming more a part of our lives; although it is helpful in many circumstances, it is a catalyst for many conflicts. Furthermore, with all the protests, strikes, and mass layoffs happening in movie studios and video games, it only becomes more evident that entertainment companies only care about assets. This has caught the attention of many, as it seems that big entertainment companies are looking to replace workers to help save money, and they have found an opportunity with AI. So what does it mean for the workers that someone has recreated Studio Ghibli‘s Princess Mononoke as a “live-action” video using only AI and that they achieved this ambitious project on a ridiculously low budget?
The user PJ Ace in X(previously Twitter), CEO of Battle Island Entertainment, shared his recreation of Princess Mononoke in “Live-Action.” Although the scenes may look beautiful, they are not live-action in the first place. In fact, PJ Ace shared in a thread the whole process of converting scenes from the original Princess Mononoke movie into his adaptation using only AI. What’s more disturbing is that he did it with a death sentence, sharing this in the caption:

It seems to me irresponsible and outrageous to announce something as the future of the industry when we are talking about a declining industry with so many people working in terrible conditions.

Even though it is true that not only the video games or filmmaking industry must adapt to changes, all industries do as well. However, at the moment, many regulations are still missing, such as copyright or better working conditions. For now, AI in the entertainment industry is causing more harm than being a tool to rely on. At least in the meantime, those who are against AI have one thing for sure: Hayao Miyazaki would not allow the technology to butcher any of his movies.
