Over the past two decades, we’ve met several memorable characters throughout the Call of Duty: Black Ops Campaign stories, some of which may have impacted our lives with their unique dialogues and pivotal actions. While each one of these iconic figures has its special place in the overall narrative, their influence is different based on how deeply they impact each chapter. Now, the list of the best Black Ops Campaign characters varies for everyone, of course, but from an out-of-the-box perspective, below might be how the top 5 are ranked and sorted.
5. Russel Adler
Russel Adler’s prestige, dialogues, and style are all that you expect from an unexaggerated CIA agent who means real business. His direct counterpart is Jason Hudson, who falls short in all mentioned terms. Not much is revealed of the character’s past, but he’s later developed in Black Ops Cold War seasons by getting brainwashed and back again. His iconic line? “We’ve got a job to do.”
4. Alex Mason
Although we do not get to see more about Alex Mason‘s past as a sniper in the U.S. Army, the brainwashed protagonist of Black Ops 1 remains one of the best characters in Call of Duty. The chemistry of Mason and Woods plays out really well in Black Ops 1 and 2, which is rarely seen in Black Ops Cold War, just like how we miss Sam Worthington’s voice in this game. CoD fact, Mason is the first Call of Duty protagonist to have dialogue lines during the gameplay.
3. Raul Menendez
Probably the only villain that can stand on the same level as Makarov is Raul Menendez. One thing that makes this guy even more threatening is that we get to see everything about his backstory, and his revenge tour is something of a personal cause. His opposing arc with Frank Woods for killing his beloved sister, later resulting in the Cordis Die movement is pivotal for the Black Ops series as a whole.
2. Frank Woods
Some characters like Captain Price become the number 1 leader of their own series in Call of Duty, and for Black Ops, it’s Frank the “onion” Woods. Mason’s brother-in-arms is by far one of the best-written characters in the Black Ops series which you get to know from his first-ever action sequence in that Cuban bar. Woods has a bite of every single thing that’s great in Black Ops, whether that’s his chemistry with Mason, or the personal problem with one the best Call of Duty villains of all time.
1. Victor Reznov
Tricky Vic is here on the #1 spot for his most unique dialogues and one of the best Call of Duty scenes we get to see at the end of World at War. The Golden Globe Award winner, Gary Oldman, voices the character, landing an impact on the players even with the most grounded lines. Reznov made his ultimate sacrifice by giving Alex Mason his freedom from the depths of Vorkuta, but his mark has lived through almost all Black Ops entries from surviving Stalingrad to saving Mason from dying in the desert.
