Sean Diddy Combs moves a third bid to appeal his pretrial release after weeks at the Metropolitan Detention Center without bail. The disgraced rapper made global headlines last month following his arrest in New York City in connection with his sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Despite pleading “not guilty” on all counts, the presiding judge ordered his detention without bail at MDC. So far, the Southern District of New York has denied attempts by Diddy’s legal team to appeal the bail decision, but the mogul isn’t giving up on freedom just yet.
Diddy’s legal team recently filed a third appeal to secure his freedom on bail pending the trial. The bid for a pretrial release, filed with the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit cited legal errors in the court’s ruling. His team also claimed the prosecutors lacked sufficient evidence to warrant his detention. They now call for the rapper’s immediate release on appropriate bail conditions.
Diddy Aims to Overturn Bail Denial After Being Tagged a Flight Risk
According to the court documents obtained by TMZ, the rapper’s legal team dismissed claims that he poses a considerable flight risk. They also established that the rapper was “not a threat to community” contrary to the prosecutors’ claims and media crusade. To prove his willingness to cooperate with authorities, his legal team has upped the proposed bail package to include stricter terms.
In addition to his proposed $50 million bail secured by his Miami mansion and his mom’s home, Diddy is willing to submit himself to a handful of necessary protocols and restrictions that address concerns about his evidence tampering, witness intimidation, and drug use. Notably, officials discovered illicit substances in his New York hotel room at the time of his arrest, as well as during the raids of his abodes in Miami and LA earlier this year.
Per his latest freedom appeal, Sean Diddy Combs promised to submit to a weekly drug test and refrain from contacting known grand jury witnesses. He also agreed to keep trying to sell his private plane and remained firm on his pledge to ban female visitors, except for family members and the mothers of his kids. Additionally, he would provide nightly visitor logs to authorities to ensure his adherence to these protocols.
Sean Diddy Combs to Face New Lawsuits Amid Detention
While his legal team remains focused on securing Diddy’s freedom pretrial, his legal woes continue to mount. At least 120 people are looking to sue the disgraced artist on charges ranging from exploitation to sexual abuse, per The Mirror. However, the icon, who pleaded “not guilty” during his hearing last month, maintains his firm denial of any “defamatory” claim suggesting he sexually abused anyone and looks forward to proving his innocence. Per his attorney Erica Wolff,
“Mr. Combs emphatically and categorically denies as false and defamatory any claim that he sexually abused anyone, including minors. He looks forward to proving his innocence and vindicating himself in court, where the truth will be established based on evidence, not speculation.”
This third appeal comes three weeks after Diddy’s highly publicized NYC arrest and grand jury indictment. Six months prior, federal agents raided his homes in Florida and Miami, confiscating several items that could be tendered as evidence during his trial, including ammunition, several containers of baby oil, lube, and narcotics. Diddy remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center pending his trial, unless his legal team manages to secure him bail beforehand.
