The Black Ops 6 Campaign seems to be a relief for the Call of Duty fans after what we had last year with MW3. However, Black Ops 6 tends to go beyond the military-shooter boundaries, giving us zombies within its mind-twisting Campaign. Now this isn’t the only time that zombies have shown up in a Call of Duty Campaign, and thankfully, it’s probably not how we think it is.
First, it was the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 that brought zombies into its Campaign story. We were following the memories of Sarah Hall in the 8th mission of the game, and she gave us a brief fight with zombies inside the Frozen Forest, which is outside reality. But given Black Ops 3‘s whole mind play and DNI madness, we could say it hasn’t meddled with the real-life narrative.
Then we had Black Ops Cold War, during which we come across an MKUltra type of mission during which Russel Adler reviews the memories he has implanted into the main character’s mind. There if you go down the wrong roads, you will encounter a bunch of zombies, to which Adler gives you a response. And just like that, it seems like we’re going to have the same thing going on in Black Ops 6.
In the recent Black Ops 6 Campaign trailer, Jon Zuk, the Associate Creative Director of Raven Software, has addressed a mission called Emergence, during which the players will go through fighting mannequins and zombies. He describes this mission as “It’s classic Black Ops, mind-twisting, don’t really know what’s going on vibe to it.”
Now if this is a mind-bending mission, I’m a fan. Black Ops has always sold its brainwashed stories and numbers sequence that we all enjoyed and loved in its Campaigns. However, I really hope that it has nothing to do with the Zombies story, which has its own plot with Edward Richtofen’s return.
