Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck officially called it quits on their marriage back in August. JLo filed for divorce, revealing in the documents that she and the Jersey Girl actor had been separated for months. Since then, the two have reportedly been playing nice. They were even seen spending time together with their kids. However, things are allegedly starting to get tense when it comes to their divorce settlement and being declared legally single.
Sources tell In Touch Weekly that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were moving at a good speed through their divorce negotiations. Although the pair reportedly didn’t have a prenup, they were attending mediation and using famed attorney Laura Wasser to help them work through the end of their marriage.
Now, Ben and Jen have reportedly hit a major setback. The couple’s lavish $68 million Beverly Hills mansion is proving to be a big problem. The couple listed the house for sale before even filing for divorce. Recently, the duo received a $64 million offer on the house from a buyer in New Jersey. However, that offer has now fallen through.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s Divorce Could Take Years To Settle
The couple accepted the offer, even though it was lower than their asking price. They had hoped to wrap up their divorce in a timely manner. However, after a death in the buyer’s family, they pulled out of escrow. The mansion will now have to be relisted for sale, and the entire process will start all over again. This means more headaches for Lopez and Affleck.
“Part of the reason that Ben agreed to play nice and go to these joint mediations was to try and get things settled as soon as possible,” an insider revealed “But they weren’t counting on these setbacks, particularly with the sale of their house.”
“They were hoping to unload that quickly but that’s just not happening and it’s a huge pain because it’s going to involve a ton or red tape and essentially until that’s sold, they can’t settle the divorce,” the source continued. “There’s really no telling how long that could delay things.”
The informant went on to reveal that Lopez and Affleck are “still squabbling” over many aspects of their divorce. This includes the amount that JLo will have to pay Affleck due to not having a prenup in place. In addition, they allegedly also have several assets that haven’t been split up.
“The whole situation is a mess and people are predicting this could drag out for many more months, if not years.”
Meanwhile, some fans find it exhausting that the couple are having to go through so much to end their marriage.
“This split will be long and painful, just like they want it to be. These two will never get rid of each other. By the time they’re ready to settle the divorce they’ll likely be back together again,” one person wrote.
“This is a huge snag for Ben and Jen. If they thought this was going to be easy and painless they were wrong,” another comment read.
For now, it seems that both Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are going about life the best way they can until they figure out the next step in their divorce process.
