It’s not Comic Con without a premiere trailer for a new season of AMC’s The Walking Dead. The second day of the convention had eleven cast members on the panel. As expected, it opened up with a brand new trailer for season 8 of the hit show, which premieres this October.

The season 7 finale of The Walking Dead left us with the various communities finally coming together at Alexandria in order to take down Negan and the Saviors. While a beloved character was lost (R.I.P Sasha) and a few Saviors were indeed killed, Negan and his right-hand man, Simon, managed to escape the showdown unharmed. The finale set the tone for a new course of action when the show premieres this fall. Where much of last season was devoted to introducing Negan and all of the characters’ emotional responses and attitudes toward him, season 8 can move forward and build the momentum and the certain level of fearlessness that’s needed in order to kill him.

The Walking Dead

The trailer for season 8 reflects this, and we hear some impassioned speeches from both Maggie and Rick. In one part of the clip, we hear Maggie in a voice over saying, “We need to keep our faith in each other. If we can hold on to that with everything we have, the future is ours. The world is ours.” In a similar vein, we hear Rick saying, “Those who use and take and kill, we end them…no matter what comes next, we’ve won. We’ve already won.”

While Rick felt defeated much of last season following the brutal deaths of Glenn and Abraham, we finally saw him start to take some action in the second half by rounding up the communities for the big battle with Negan. He came out of the season a lot more hardened and with a severe “nothing left to lose” attitude, especially after Negan threatened to kill Carl, to which Rick said, “Go ahead.”

The Walking Dead

After a brief interaction between Negan and Father Gabriel, the season 8 trailer continued with a montage of every character, every community, and some cryptic-looking settings. Something also worth noting is that everyone is wearing different colored armbands to signify their respective communities. Right now, it looks as though white is for Alexandria, green for the Hilltop, and red for The Kingdom. The trailer also reminds us how far these characters have come, and how much they possibly have to lose when Maggie says, “Been fighting since the farm. Can’t stop now.”

Season 8 of The Walking Dead premieres October 22, 2017, on AMC. Stay up to date on all TWD news at The Nerd Stash.
