For months, The Flash movie has been rife with bad news, from script rewrites to director changes. This has been a common tale for most of the past and upcoming DC Universe movies. The most recent news surrounding the fastest man alive’s silver screen installment revealed that the plot will focus around one of the most iconic stories in recent comic history, Flashpoint.

For the uninitiated, Flashpoint revolved around Barry Allen running back in time and changing the events of his mother’s death. Needless to say, it changed a lot of things for the worse. Not only did that affect things for a short time in one timeline, it rebooted the entire comic universe in real life as well, with the new saga being called The New 52.

With all that in mind, combined with the news revealed at San Diego Comic Con, one has to wonder if The Flash movie will do the same thing for the movie universe that Flashpoint did for the comics. The studios behind the films have been adamant that the focus and structure of each movie have not changed, despite the positive reception received by Wonder Woman, which many thought to be a far different tone from the other installments.

While nothing is set in stone, take into account the ongoing problems surrounding the current DCU’s lead superhero Batman. Rumors have circulated for months that Ben Affleck would not be playing the role of The Dark Knight for much longer. It’s not entirely surprising if it’s not a rumor though, considering all the troubles the actor has run into recently revolving creative differences.

Despite all that, Affleck is adamant that he is happy and not going anywhere, addressing the rumors at San Diego Comic Con.

“I know there was a misconception that because I didn’t direct [The Batman] that I wasn’t enthusiastic about it. [But] it’s f***ing amazing,” Affleck told the crowd. “And I still can’t believe I’ve done two films and have this great history with this studio.”

At this point, everything is mere speculation, but the fact that the plot of The Flash: Flashpoint is guaranteed to revolve around the biggest reboot in comic history will only fuel the fire.
