The allegedly well-known Minocqua Brewing Company in Wisconsin has been under criticism online after its billboard went viral on r/pics, garnering almost 60k upvotes. In a photo shared by userdk3, the billboard calls Republicans liars over the incident of January 6th. At a naive glance, the brewery’s owner would seem to be on the Democrats’ side, but countless comments in the Reddit post say otherwise.
For context, the Minocqua Brewing Company prides itself on being progressive, extremely progressive, so much so to the point that it’s a marketing strategy for its variety of products and merchandise. Being so political has come at a cost, with only 64% of 7,865 Facebook reviews recommending the business. Still, the owner, Kirk Bangstad, continues to post plenty of posts criticizing Trump and other controversial political topics.
Many Claim Minocqua Brewing Company Is Hated by ‘Both Sides’
While many praise Kirk for his social media and marketing prowess, plenty claim he’s not too likable on a personal level. One Reddit user writes, “I’m from Wisconsin originally and have friends who live near his brewery – the guy is a known grifter and is hated across both political aisles in the state.” Another Redditor chimed in, saying, “Everyone around [in Wisconsin], left or right, knows this guy is a waste of time. He annoys everyone at this point.”
Others accuse Kirk of being involved in shady financial practices. “He grifts off liberal frustrations to fill his pac, and then there’s no oversight as to where that money actually goes,” says a commenter. They added how the Wisconsin Public Radio had interviewed Kirk, but he wasn’t too keen after being asked about the “funds.” “It’s actually just another perfect example of American politics,” the user concludes.
Similarly, Redditors called out the American political scene in a different post about a Trump supporter’s sign in a trailer park, likening the whole party-versus-party opposition to sports team fans. Needless to say, there were several dozen in the comments of the Minocqua Brewing Company photo’s post, praising and supporting Kirk for speaking out against Republicans.
While it’s easy to gravitate to those in the same political party or share the same political opponent, one thoughtful Reddit user warns others about this way of thinking. “We don’t need to be supporting them just because we have a common cause,” they wrote.
