Scott Buck will no longer be the showrunner for Marvel’s Netflix Original Iron Fist. In his stead, Raven Metzner (Sleepy Hollow, Falling Skies) has been hired to attempt to right the ship after a rough first season.

Metzner may not be as big a name as Whedon or other Marvel directors and showrunners, but he does have experience with the comic series, directing Elektra back in 2005. According to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel executive Jeph Loeb is very excited about Metzner coming on, expressing full confidence in him.

“Raven’s love of all things Iron Fist and his extensive knowledge of martial arts films made him the perfect choice to continue telling the adventures of Danny Rand and Colleen Wing,” he said. “Season One and The Defenders are only the beginning of this fantastic action packed tale.”

The news comes on the heels of a busy week at San Diego Comic Con, with multiple Marvel trailers releasing, including a new The Defenders’ trailer. While plenty of people moaned and groaned about Danny Rand’s inclusion in the team, just as many seemed excited to see the potential he has in the upcoming series.

Iron Fist’s first season ranked worst reviews for all of Netflix’s four superhero dramas, as the first season averaged a score of 37 out of 100 on Metacritic. It was criticized for everything from its action to its cinematography to even its acting, with many believing Finn Jones just wasn’t fit for the role.

Iron Fist

There is no doubt that The Defenders will feature far more, and better choreographed, action than Iron Fist, as displayed by the trailer. Our fingers are crossed that Metzner will follow in those footsteps too and make season two more action oriented, leaving out the boring business meetings that weighed down season one.

As of now, there is no release date for the second season of Iron Fist, though it has been confirmed. Be sure to check back to the site for updates, as well as all of your other Nerdy News and Needs!
