What further lunacy will this election produce? A TikTok video showing a mother and two young men stealing over 60 pro-Democratic Harris/Waltz signs in Springfield, Missouri, is firing up Reddit. The video captures the trio caught in the act as locals confronted them for trespassing and removing political signs from private properties.
The confrontation begins somewhat hostile. The locals accuse the group of stealing the signs after a tracker attached to the signage indicates they are in the vicinity of the trio’s car. This is then proven correct as the trunk is lifted to reveal over 60 signs. The mother can then be seen tossing the stolen signs from the trunk, visibly upset, sarcastically remarking, “Here, liberals,” and “I’m so tired of this!”
Tired of what? Stealing and getting caught?
As she then leaves the scene, the tone shifts when the perpetrators realize the police have been called. One of the young men nervously offers a half-hearted apology, going so far as to suggest loading the signs back into the accusers’ car.
Notably, despite claiming the whole operation was a prank and no big deal, the group seems to have an unusually deep understanding of the legal consequences. At one point, the young man claims they “weren’t doing anything serious,” adding that stealing less than $200 worth of property would avoid any jail time. Apparently, he had calculated the value of the signage based on his review of Etsy. As one commenter noted, “Oh, you know the laws about the things you steal, but it’s all just a joke?”
Thousands of comments have since poured in, with users tearing up both the actions of the group and the mother’s dismissive attitude. One Redditor summed up the sentiment perfectly: “She’s tired of liberals catching her thieving sons. If you don’t want the police involved, maybe don’t steal signs in the first place”.
Authorities are reportedly investigating the incident, though it remains to be seen if charges will be pressed. The potential legal consequences for the trio could be significant. As one former county prosecutor in the comment section explained, “In Missouri, it’s actually a $150 threshold between class D misdemeanor stealing and class A misdemeanor. Becomes a felony at $750.” The locals seen confronting the trio in the video claim the signage are worth $20 each, which would make the total value $1200+.
Additionally, the theft of campaign signs is categorized as a Class A misdemeanor, which could lead to further legal trouble, including jail time.
Despite the trio’s claims of the act being a prank, the community, and now the internet, are not amused.
