Erik Menendez’s bucket list has his wife, Tammi Menendez’s name written all over it as the Menendez brothers edge closer to possible freedom. The convict’s eye is set on Las Vegas as his home when he regains freedom and reunites with his wife. Erik and Tammi married in 1999, six years after they first began communicating through letters.
Erik stated that he would find his way to Southern Nevada to live with his wife of 25 years. Should it happen, it would be the couple’s first time spending time together since they tied the knot. Tammi and Erik began exchanging letters while married to someone else in 1993.
His wife disclosed that she first doubted the abuse claims by Erik and his brother, Lyle Menendez. However, after her daughter experienced abuse from her first husband, she became interested in the brothers’ story. The couple’s bond became deeper following their shared experiences. Erik reportedly comforted her, and the relationship became serious.
Tammi explained their encounter in her book “They Said We’d Never Make It: My Life With Erik Menendez.” The couple have waded through the muddy waters of zero conjugal visits and have stayed married.
Like his brother, Lyle also met his current wife and ex-wife through letters. He married his first wife, Anna Eriksson, in 1996 and divorced in 2001. Cupid smiled on him two years later, in 2003, when he married Rebecca Sneed. Lyle and Rebecca exchanged letters for over a decade before legally sealing the deal, per TMZ.
The Menendez Brothers’ Resentencing Fate To Be Decided Soon
The brothers may become one step closer to their freedom today if things go as planned. PEOPLE gathered from Los Angeles D.A, George Gascón, that a decision about recommending the resentencing will happen today. Gascón will hold a press conference at 1:30 PT at the Hall of Justice in downtown Los Angeles.
The attorney is reportedly making the decision following a review of new evidence, the brothers’ conduct, and prison rehabilitation. Although the DA will pull his weight, the presiding judge has the final say on the brothers’ fate. Erik and Lyle are currently serving life sentences without parole after a conviction for murdering Jose and Kitty Menendez.
This announcement for consideration for resentencing comes after the brothers’ family members held a press conference demanding their release. Multiple relatives came forward to cite the different sexual abuse the brothers endured from Jose. Lyle was 21, and Erik, 18, when the Menendez Brothers shot their parents with 12-gauge shotguns in Beverly Hills in 1989.
