I’ve said it hundreds of times before, but it will never make sense to me when people feel entitled to something that by all rights, is not theirs. This could be anything from staying parked on someone’s driveway to driving onto a military base without thinking there would be consequences. Sometimes, those same people record the confrontations themselves and then post them online for all to see. Fortunately, one male Karen on a train in the UK managed to do just that, finding its way to Reddit.
The video depicts a man on a train heading to an unknown destination but without a train ticket. Instead of purchasing one or leaving the train, he decides to record the interaction after telling a train attendant that he doesn’t have a ticket. Strangely enough, he wasn’t asked if he had a ticket; he just admitted to not having one out of the blue. As a result of his confession, the train attendant needed to complete his job and stop the train to have him offboarded for not having a ticket.
After deliberations, the train needed to move forward, and there wasn’t enough ground to kick the male Karen off without putting hands on him. As a result, he was able to ride the train for free, and boasted about doing so with a smile on his face. Regardless of the fact that he might have won in this interaction, the entire internet seems to think otherwise. The replies were filled with commenters criticizing the man’s actions.
“Guy recording is an arrogant p****. Love how he went straight to violence.”
This kind of entitlement towards regular people doing their jobs is so weird. As someone who worked in retail for nearly a decade, I sympathized completely with the train attendant when he said,
“You can tape me all you want, I’m doing my job.”
Hopefully, the man recording got some sort of ban from being able to ride public transportation in his area, especially considering how viral the video went.
