50 Cent is explaining why he distanced himself from Donald Trump‘s campaign. The rapper, who endorsed the Republican presidential candidate in the 2020 elections, revealed he rejected a big payday because he didn’t want to be involved in politics.
50 Cent made the revelation during a Tuesday appearance on The Breakfast Club. “Is it true Donald Trump tried to give you money to endorse him one time?” DJ Envy asked the Candy Shop rapper. He answered, saying the former president called him about being an opener at Sunday’s Madison Square Garden rally. Charlamagne Tha God then asked, “They wanted you to perform ‘Many Men’ at the RNC too, right?” which 50 Cent confirmed was true. “Yeah. They offered me $3 million,” the Power producer confessed. The 49-year-old, who didn’t show up at either of the political events, explained why he rejected the invites.
“I didn’t even go for it. I’m afraid of politics. I do not like it. It’s because when you do get involved in it, no matter how you feel, somebody passionately disagrees with you.”
50 Cent continued, referencing his rival Kanye West’s expulsion from Hollywood over his anti-semitic rants. “Look, if you say ‘I stay away from religion,’ I stay away from politics. Religion, that’s the formula for the confusion that sent Kanye to Japan,” he further explained. “He [Kanye] said something about both of those things, and now he can only go to Japan. So you know I’m like, I don’t want to get in that, man.”
Fans Think 50 Cent Did The Right Thing By Rejecting Donald Trump
50 Cent’s refusal of Trump’s offer sparked a discussion among fans on Reddit. Many noted the rapper made a smart choice by not associating himself with the convicted former president. “This is probably because 50 knows he wouldn’t have gotten paid,” remarked one fan.
“3 mill, if he ever got paid or not, isn’t enough to cover the damage to his brand, tbh,” read a second comment.
“He’s a giant conservative but knows he could never salvage his dignity if he did that s**t,” a third fan wrote.
