Assassinโs Creed: Shadows is no doubt one of the most controversial games this year (and most likely the next). Ubisoft has already delayed the game into 2025 in what appears to be an emergency decision. Still, more rumors and speculations have been swirling that the game might get delayed further. To that, however, Ubisoft stands firm that Assassinโs Creed: Shadow wonโt have another delay.
The assurance came from Frรฉdรฉrick Duguet, Ubisoftโs Chief Financial Officer. Ubisoft recently held its investorโs call. In some of the interviews and panels, Duguet claimed โWe have a good visibility for the game to come on time and with great quality,โ regarding the risk of further delays for Assassinโs Creed: Shadows.
Itโs worth noting that Assassinโs Creed: Shadowsโ new release date of February 2024 coincides with some big titles. These include Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Avowed. Thatโs a lot more competition compared to its original release month of November 2024.
Ubisoft remains confident, however, that thatโs all the time Assassinโs Creed: Shadows needs for polish. The game is feature-complete already and Ubisoft merely wanted an impeccable launch on Day 1. Another reason for the delay is also Star Wars Outlawsโ underwhelming financial performance. This was a surprising setback for an IP that big.
However, Ubisoft is also exploring some of its โnon-coreโ assets, meaning thereโs still a chance for Assassinโs Creed: Shadows to be delayed depending on what these assets are.
โWe continue exploring the sale of non-core assets as part of our broader strategy to focus on our two core verticals, Open World Adventures, and GAAS-native experiences, as well as enhance financial flexibility,โ Dugeut added in the interview. Itโs not clear what they meant by enhancing their financial flexibility. Duguet couldnโt comment more on the matter of their โnon-core assets.โ
