Hollywood celebrities make up a rather substantial percentage of Donald Trump’s most vocal critics. Among them is Mark Hamill, aka Luke Skywalker. The veteran Star Wars actor has been notably and loudly anti-Trump in the past and the months leading up to the recent US presidential election. Now that Trump has won, Hamill has something to say not just to the new US President, but also to the American people.
Mark Hamill took to X, formerly Twitter to voice out his woes:
So Hamill is no doubt disappointed with the US and those who voted for Trump. Mark Hamill has been heavily endorsing Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party in the months prior. Long before that, Hamill was also critical of Donald Trump back in his first run as the president.
The tweet has since become viral with both liberals and conservatives alike flocking to the replies section, waging their own political discourse, as usual. Some echoed Hamill’s disappointment, while others defended Trump’s victory, even calling him an “American Hero.”
Luke Skywalker Wasn’t Alone in His Sentiments
Hamill is not the only Star Wars actor who endorsed Kamala Harris and even spoke out against Trump. His fellow original Star Wars trilogy co-star Harrison Ford (Han Solo) also voted for Harris and endorsed her in a rather clear-cut and dramatic call to action. It appears the Rebel Alliance is very clearly against Trump.
This isn’t the first time Mark Hamill endorsed Donald Trump’s electoral rival. Back in 2016, Mark Hamill was also on the Democratic Party’s side. He not only endorsed Hillary Clinton but also helped the former presidential candidate with a $130 million fundraiser. Trump winning again is déjà vu for Mark Hamill at this point, which likely resulted in the disappointed tweet.
As for why many Hollywood actors and actresses were against Donald Trump, celebrities like Mark Hamill were keen on reminding people that Trump has 34 felony convictions. Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records.
Other Hollywood celebrities were not so keen on staying in X, which is owned by Elon Musk. Musk was an avid Trump supporter and even accompanied him to a rally back in October 2024. After Trump won the US election, celebrities like Shonda Rimes, Elton John, and Bette Midler quit from X in an angry move.
Meanwhile, Mark Hamill, who has been active on X and even engages with his followers from time to time, remains on the platform (for now) to weather the storm.
